This course is available to anyone looking to improve their knowledge, understanding and competence for offering advice on nutrition for healthy living, or to improve their own understanding about nutrition. This course provides the underpinning knowledge on the role of key food groups, the structure and function of the digestive system and the basic principles of weight management. It is a great course for anyone looking to start in the fitness industry or to complement health care roles.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for anyone with the passion to improve nutritional habits in their communities. You do not need to be a fitness professional to complete this course; therefore, it is great for keen fitness enthusiasts, carers, health trainers and other health care roles. It provides a great opportunity to develop the baseline understanding which the L2 Gym Instruction qualifications follow on from.

This course is offered as blended online learning with the support of a mentor. You can study at a time and place that is suitable for you, making courses more accessible. Studying will take place within our learning platform online. The information is taught via a series of video delivered PowerPoints to replicate the experience in the classroom, with interactive activities and quizzes to check on your learning progress as you move through the units. The videos require Windows Media Player or equivalent technology which is available on most modern devices. It is suitable for use with computers, laptops and Apple technology (Apple technology will require downloading an App in order to play WMV files). Please ensure you have the suitable software and device to easily view these videos.
You are also required to submit your assessments to the office either electronically, via webinars or post; therefore, there is no attendance required for this course.
You will have a personal mentor who will get in contact with you and they are there for support and guidance throughout the course.
Length of Course
It is recommended that this course would take approximately 2-3 weeks to complete. This is based on 2-3 hours of learning per day. If you were able to complete more training each day then you would be able to complete it faster; equally if you are not able to commit 2-3 hours a day then it may take slightly longer. You are also required to submit a worksheet and presentation so time to complete these should also be taken in to account. A timescale will be discussed between you and your mentor to help give you an idea of course duration.

You can start this course any time from now. If you could please complete our application form found HERE, sign it and email it to the office: email@example.com. Once completed, head over to the ‘Online Courses’ section under the ‘Course’ tab of the website you will be able to create yourself a log on. Find ‘Nutrition for Healthy Living’ in the list of courses. You will be asked for your payment in full and once completed you can access the learning materials to get started (BACS is also accepted, contact the office for details). You will be contacted within 24 hours by your personal mentor and an admin member who will confirm your suitability for the course and finalise confirmation. This qualification is awarded by YMCA Awards and is an Award which provides you with 5 credits.
By the end of this course you will receive a Level 2 Award in Nutrition for Healthy Living (YMCA Awards). This course does not allow for entry onto the REPs register.
