Overview

In this training, we are joined by guest expert Tom Shelton. Tom is a clinical lead physiotherapist in rheumatology and specialises in supporting people to manage chronic pain. He will host two topics within this bundle. The first will explore the biology of chronic pain and the role of exercise in common chronic pain conditions so we know how to lead safe and effective sessions. The second will explore what conditions can have flare ups, what flare ups mean and why they may happen and what can you advise clients having a flare up.

The trainings aims to explore:

  • The biology of chronic pain and what this can mean for those providing personal training and fitness services.
  • The role of exercise/activity in common chronic pain conditions.
  • The role of personal training in supporting exercise/activity.
  • Conditions that can experience flare ups
  • Understand why certain conditions have flare ups
  • Explore what you can do to support clients during a flare up

Who is this training for?

This training is suitable for fitness professionals who work within exercise referral schemes or personal trainers with clients living with chronic pain.

Pre-requisites

Instructors are recommended to hold a L3 Exercise Referral qualification or as a minimum a L3 Personal Trainer or equivalent qualification. If you are not an Exercise Referral Instructor but would like to use this training for knowledge development, you must ensure you remain in line with professional industry standards and insurance policies and do not practice information outside of your qualification boundaries. It is advisable to complete the appropriate pre-requisite.

What is involved in this training?

You are required to watch each of the video presentations and take notes as required. There is some recommended reading suggested as part of the CPD training. You will then answer a short multiple choice knowledge check to evaluate the learning process and check understanding.

Length of the Training

Each training will take approximately 1-2 hours to complete (including recommended reading).

There are no formal assessments for this training. However, you will be asked to complete a short multiple choice knowledge check to evaluate the learning process.
