More Information About Eating Disorders

March 2nd to March 8th is eating disorders week, an international awareness event that aims to fight myths and misunderstanding around anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and OSFED (other specified feeding or eating disorder).

Our L2 Mental health awareness course includes information and support around this area. Here are organisations you could use when looking for more information, training, help and support for people with eating disorders.

Beat was the first charity for people with eating disorders and was formally known as the eating disorders association.

They offer advice and support including helplines and newsletters. There is guidance on the website for what to do if you suspect someone has an eating disorder and information on how to support people.

They also have support groups, networks and training courses for those caring for people with anorexia and bulimia.

The National Centre for Eating Disorders was founded by Deanne Jade, a psychologist and expert on eating disorders and obesity issues. NCED offer personal assessments for people with eating disorders as well as an information service for sufferers, carers, researchers and students. They also offer training courses for health professionals in eating disorders, obesity and nutrition and the website has a wide range of information on issues like body image, psychology of dieting, eating disorders in males and the effects of under eating.

Anorexia and Bulimia Care are a national organisation registered in 1989. They provide support and practical guidance for anyone effected by eating disorders. They run online training courses for health and fitness professionals as well as those in schools and higher education. The website also has a location search to find counsellor and dieticians in the local area.
